Get a Piece of the Valentine’s Day Pie
by Blair Cariss
Valentine’s day creeps up on us every year. Just as we’re getting back into the full swing of the year BAM something else you’ve got to remember. But whatever your personal views on Valentine’s day some industries can ill afford to leave it to the consumer gods to take advantage of this loved up day.
It is pretty late if you are only just organising your Valentine’s day print marketing now but the average guy does leave things until the death knock so you may be in luck. Only if you act fast though. And here are some reasons why you should:
Spending On Valentines Day Is HUGE!
For Valentine’s Day 2014 Australians were tipped to spend $791.4 million across items such as greeting cards, chocolates, jewellery, flowers, dining, clothing, lingerie & travel. That’s a whopping amount of consumer spending that you can (and should) be getting a piece of.
Restaurants & Cafes to rake it in
Couples were tipped to spend 42.3 million on intimate dining alone. What better opportunity for cafe and restaurant owners to increase patronage and offer a premium ‘experience’ for their customers. Impress them suitably enough and they’ll likely return throughout the year.
Last Minute might actually work for you
So your average Joe Blogs is probably going to leave things until the last minute (if he remembers the day at all). Use a flyer or a postcard to show why your restaurant is the only place to be on Feb 14. Or perhaps a catalogue or brochure to show off your products/services and direct them to your website for last minute orders of flowers, chocolates or even lingerie. Spell it out for them and make sure your design grabs their attention. You could also send a reminder a few days before the event… just to make sure and to stay top of mind! Last minute deals are guaranteed to catch people’s attention.
Card Giving Isn’t Just For Couples
Greeting cards should be used by businesses too – especially SME’s who want to connect with the clients on a more personal level. A Valentine’s Day card can pretty well work for all businesses that have a mailing list and a product or service to sell. Send a card to your list that tells them how much they are loved & admired as a customer. Think of what you could offer them as a thank-you with the aim to get them purchasing from you again well after Valentine’s Day is over. At the very least you’ll be top of mind next time they need your product or service.
As with any print run don’t forget your business phone number, operating hours (if relevant) and website. Use a special code to track the success of your print campaign. And always triple check your details and copy BEFORE you go to print.
